Analysis of the production activities of poultry farms showed that poor-quality feed is the main source of head disease.
As a rule, dangerous diseases in chickens occur quite rarely. Most often from improper maintenance (unsanitary conditions) or poor quality feed. Poor-quality feed causes the most problems: here there is vitamin deficiency, goiter inflammation, and problems with the gastrointestinal tract … The most common are the following:
- Salpingitis (inflammation of the oviduct) is considered the most common in laying hens. It occurs with improper feeding and a lack of vitamins and can lead to prolapse of the oviduct.
Symptoms: irregularly shaped eggs, or eggs without shells, the bird is sluggish, egg laying stops, lack of appetite, apathy.
Treatment – protein-free vitamin supplements, normalization of nutrition, regular examination and referral to the veterinarian if the oviduct has fallen out.
- Pasteurellosis is an extremely dangerous viral disease that leads to the death of birds. The course is fast, the mortality rate is 100%.
Symptoms: high fever, nasal discharge, blue ridge, heavy breathing.
It is treated with antibiotics in the first stage. Recovery in the last stages of the disease is not possible.
- Cuticulitis (gastritis) – associated with malnutrition and leads to damage to the inner lining of the stomach.
Symptoms: diarrhea, weakness, disheveledness, loss of appetite.
Treatment of chickens: a diet of infusion of hemp seeds, weak potassium permanganate. Prevention – regular addition of fresh greens to bird feed.
- Uric acid diathesis (gout). The reason – unhealthy diet, leads to salt depositionthey are typical for adult birds. Symptoms: loss of appetite, bloating of intestines and goiter, the chicken “falls to its feet”, sits still.
Treatment – a protein-free diet, vitamins.
- Alopecia (loss of feathers) – differs from seasonal molt in scale. It occurs when there is a lack of protein and vitamins, but can also be caused by a tick.
Symptoms: noticeable skin lesions, skin redness, itching, feather loss.
Treatment is to find out exactly the cause of alopecia. If it is a tick or a chewing lice, the chicken is removed from the herd and treated with drugs, if there is a lack of vitamins, they are added to the diet.
- Inflamed Z06 – occurs due to poor food, various objects or poisonous grains getting into the goiter bag. Symptoms: apathy, lack of appetite, increased goiter, fluid from the throat.
Treatment for this disease of domestic chickens depends on the cause and can be either surgical (removal of a foreign object) or with diet and washes.
These are diseases that can be solved with the help of prevention, if you notice it in time, but is there any point in bringing your company to such a state? After all, it hits the economic part of the factory.
For example, high-quality drugs for stabilization cost from 23.66 euros and above, for a home chicken coop they are quite suitable and will not even be a pity.
But if you look at a large factory, which has more than 500 thousand heads, and of them they began to suffer from the disease, say even 20%, the loss increases significantly. 20% is already 100,000 heads, if we started from home prevention with the presence of 20-30 heads, 1-2 such drugs or feed concentrate will be enough, but for large-scale production these are already different numbers to carry out such prevention / treatment a large factory with 100,000 heads will cost € 76,904.74. Is poor quality feed worth it? Anyone would say no.
But this is still a favorable result if we take into account the next possible risk of VIRAL diseases, which also arise from poor-quality feed.
- Pullorosis (typhoid)
- Marek’s disease (infectious paralysis)
- Newcastle disease (pseudo plague)
- Egg Drop Syndrome
And if one neglects or does not react to these diseases in time, then such diseases can spread to healthy birds. In this case, the measures of suppression of the disease are not so rosy. For instance:
More than 3.7 million agricultural birds have been destroyed in Russia due to bird flu
This is the headline of one of the Internet news resources “Veterinary Medicine and Life”.
For example, the average price for laying hens is 3.50 euros, so the losses in this production only on heads will be from 10,352,560 euros. Loss from loss of egg production and factory downtime is not included.
The damage will be covered by the state
As it turns out, outbreaks of bird flu are not only affordable owner, but also on the budget of the republic. If its outbreak is identified on the farm, then all livestock is removed and destroyed. In this case, according to the law, the state is obliged to compensate the damage to the entrepreneur.
– What is the objective assessment of damage? And was the livestock insured?
inquired the deputy chairman who was present at the meeting
State Council of the Republic of Tatarstan Marat Akhmetov.
– The livestock was not insured. That’s the big trouble. On the
today the amount was calculated at market value. All these
the calculations were given to us by the Ministry of Agriculture. According to “Zalesny” – 225 million. This is a direct
damage, they lost it one-time. And for the remaining four enterprises 5.1
million rubles. They are small in comparison with the “Zalesny”, – explained
And this is damage from a viral disease in Tatarstan.
In Hungary, almost 170 thousand ducks and turkeys will be destroyed due to bird flu
But the problem with the virus in Hungary is already 502,838 euros. The source of information is the same Internet resource “Veterinary Medicine and Life”.
A logical question arises whether it is worth not taking into account the risks and future costs in the hope of what will carry.
The solution is very simple, “CONFORMING TO STANDARDS” that is CERTIFICATION, for the poultry farm the ISO22000, ISO90001, FSSC22000 and BRC standards will definitely go. But this is not enough, one of the best solutions is to have contacts with those suppliers who are already certified according to the GMP + FSA standard or insist on its implementation, but large poultry farms often have their own feed production inside the production and the best way out in order to avoid risks and losses there will be certification of these production processes.
GMP + FSA Are leading schemes that have clear requirements and standards that support the safety of feed and feed additives.
GMP + FSA has a number of different standards and is aimed more deeply at the safety of feed and feed additives.
GMP + B1 this standard has the conditions and requirements for feed safety in relation to:
– production and processing of feed
– feed trade
– storage and / or shipment of feed
The requirements of this standard apply to any kind of physical activity in the production of feed: collection, drying, cleaning, mixing, packaging, storage, transshipment. It minimizes risks, helps prevent the occurrence of substandard products, by introducing clear requirements and standards that support the safety of feed and feed additives. …
Only one conclusion suggests itself, for the safe and stable operation of production, all industrial chains must be taken into account, and in this case the dependence on feed production is very high, therefore, the requirements for them must be appropriate, GMP + is not just a standard, but a whole system that is not will only protect you, it will also be responsible for improving quality, will give a guarantee of reliability and enhance your image.
